Sadness and Rage

He stands alone, feelings of foreboding overwhelming,
As he gazes at the ominous gathering storm.
They called him a Cassandra!
Sadness, anger and rage contend for his very soul,
While the storm races to blot the horizon;
He mourns the impending annihilation of Eden,
Which only he seems to see!

Power and priviledge strive to create private nirvanas,
Alas, too self-absorbed to see they already have it all!
Greed masquerades as civilization’s progress,
While the skies swirl, with choking clouds of multi-hued offal;
Rivers drink in poisons and nutrients alike,
Rescinding God’s exquisite symmetry.

Ancient foes bubble and churn in contagious froth,
Lying in wait for their master’s order to issue!
In subterranean vaults, elements seethe and simmer,
Promising a millenium of death if they escape their crypt!
Humankind’s creative ingenuity is legendary,
Surpassed only by it’s destructive nature and rapacious greed!

He hangs his head, alone and isolated he stands,
His vision impinges on the pursuit of wealth,
And self-absorbed amusement.
People say he is old beyond his years,
His face etched with worry.
Knowledge is both gift and curse.
Still he hurls an anguished plea skyward,
Which breaks unanswered on the crashing storm!
